Vascular/ Carotid Testing    Rationale

Patients with a family or personal history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney disease or heart disease, who experience leg pain, especially during activity, should be evaluated for PAD. The simple PAD patient questionnaire covers these major risk factors. The other signs and symptoms can be detected during the clinical exam.

Macon Medical Center's protocol for ordering vascular testing is 4 positives on the PAD patient survey are scheduled for vascular test.

We really should be doing vascular testing on our lumbar radiculopathy patients if they have 4 plus signs or symptoms to differentiate between claudication and radiculopathy.

The vascular test is a great way to monitor diabetic neuropathy and progressive carotid plaque. The patients LOVE to get health information for FREE, Many of our patients have at some point paid $200-$400 to have this same test done on a life mobile truck.
